Inviting Students To Share Their Voice

Now, more than ever, students realize their need to have a voice in the classroom. In the age of internet social networks and self-broadcasting tools, students are accustomed to being able to express themselves and share their unique view with the world around them. What place is more important for this to happen than in the classroom? To be given a voice in the classroom - where traditionally, the only voice has come from the instructor - is what many students are craving. So many students need to be heard, because they have incredible stories to tell.

They only need be invited.

iAm Project Collection

The iAm Collection is complete including student video created by Brandon Kari. I uploaded the complete collection for review on iTunes U. In class I presented a Keynote on "What is Brand?" and my students are completing the iAm Brand Activity, using a discussion board to write about their brand promise.  One student wrote "I promise that my brand is loyal, hardworking and trustworthy. 100% committed. You can rely on me to come in clutch no matter what the situation is I will get it done. I also learn from the mistakes I make and the mistakes from others." We are refining our brand statements and next will be looking at designing logos for our personal brand.
Stay Tuned!

Welcome to the iAm Project Blog.

Thank you for joining our project blog.  The iAm Project was born out of the 2011 Apple Distinguished Educator Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.  Five educators from all along the east coast joined together to create a series of lessons, videos and other assets to help students explore the topic of identity.  The iAm Project begins with a personal branding exercise and culminates with the creation of a ResuMe, a collection of student work that expresses students' new found voice.

The following posts explore how the project is working for the teachers that created it.
